MHR Friday: Jimmy-Rig Master

My husband rocks. Does yours? Find out what MHR Friday is all about here. Join Katy Lin's blogroll, then leave a comment for me below if you participated. I'd love to come see why your hubby rocks!
*********

Yesterday, I was reminded me of a reason why my husband rocks. He was about to go out for a run and wanted to take his I-touch with him to listen to music as he ran. However, he had no pockets in his workout clothes and he didn't want to carry it. So, he cut up old duffle bag, used some of that stick-iron-on glue stuff (the no-stitch way to sew) and created a pocket on the inside of his shirt sleeve to hold his i-touch. brilliant. I'm supposed to be the domestic goddess of this house...he's got me beat..(in a very masculine, macho way) :)

I have long considered him the "Jimmy-Rig Master". Here's a few examples of why he deserves the title:

- He once jimmy-rigged our car's emergency break light so that it would light up when pulled up so that we could pass our safety inspection in Utah (we failed the 1st round because of this). Savings: $200 (cost of fixing at car shop)

- He jimmy-rigged ski-racks to fit the top of our car (which didn't before). Using wood, lots of duct tape and little rubber things he found in the garbage, we successfully traveled from Utah to Massachussetts with a 150 lb bag atop our rigged ski racks.
Savings: $125 (cost of ski racks that actually fit the car)

- He jimmy-rigged our old 1981 Honda Passport Scooter when the headlight stopped working. He rewired it several times and it eventually always went out again. So, he finally duct-taped a flashlight to the front so he could still drive it at night.
Savings: -$45 (he got a ticket for driving with no headlight..I still think it was genious)

- He jimmy-rigged (err.."constructed") a personal driving range when we couldn't afford to pay for balls at the golfcourse driving range. A picture explains it all:
(PS--that's not our house in the backround, it's a playhouse)
Savings: $30/for all the balls he would have had to pay for at the real range
And...the list goes on. He sure is a handy guy to have around...and he saves us a lot of money!

"My Husband Rocks" Friday

If you haven't heard the buzz yet about MHR (My Husband Rocks Friday), click HERE to find out what it's all about.

This is why My Husband ROCKS this Friday:
He is THE best rock skipper ever...seriously.
This seems like a silly reason to love my husband, but it's true. As soon as there is water in sight, his eyes go into auto-mode as he searches for the perfect skipping rock... I'm always there to document with pictures (probably because my version of skipping rocks includes finding the fattest rock and chucking it full speed into the water to see how big of a splash I can make).

Anyway, I'm pretty darn proud of his rocking-skipping abilities. If I were to write a book about him, it would go something like this: (think Dr. Seuss, people)

"Oh, the Rocks You'll Skip"

Oh, the rocks you'll skip
will have quite a good grip...

They'll be flat and round
and found on the ground...

You'll flick with your wrist
and off they will twist...

as they skip once, twice..
ten times? How nice!

You'll skip rugged Alaskan rocks,
and some off of Utah Lake's docks...

You'll skip rocks that are gritty,
found off shore from the city...

You'll skip rocks into the ocean's wave,
and your biggest fan will rave...

On and on the rocks you will skip,
and off they will go with your special whip...

So skip them where and how you'd like
You are my rock-skipping Mike.

Oh, I can't wait to see
all the the rocks that you'll skip!

"My Husband Rocks" Friday - A Tradition Begins

Today begins a new tradition for Love, Actually. I have decided to participate in "My Husband Rocks" Friday hosted by Katy Lin at the Great Adventure. This is such a fabulous idea and a great way to express our love for our husbands! (although my husband might enjoy this expression better in the form of a massage!) Regardless, I am doing it anyway!

Katy started this blogging tradition because of her belief that "one of the great and wonderful mysteries of life is that loving each other in action--what we do and say--produces romance."

I love that!
Here is what I am going to do with it. I will do my post each Friday and email the link to my hubby. Then, every Friday (or as often as I can on Fridays) he will get this "love letter" of sorts... Plus, it's good for me to sit down and think about the reasons why I love him and actually put them into writing. It does a marriage good! I will try to make these posts interesting to read for you as well...you know, not too sappy all the time.

To participate in MHR Friday, leave a comment on this post with the link to your MHR Friday Post and then head on over to Katy Lin's blog and let her know! You can join her MHR Blogroll as I have!

So, without further ado, this is why My Husband Rocks!

************************

Lately, my life has been consumed with this blog. I figure by now that everyone who reads my blog thinks, "Wow, Cher's hubby really has it made..." But honestly, lately, he has been seriously neglected. I try to make up for it a little, but when it comes down to it, we haven't spend a lot of quality time together the past few weeks. I fully intend to make up for that, but for now, I wanted to express how much I appreciate his support for my creation of this blog. At night, when my eyes can no longer squint at my computer screen and I'm done preparing my post for the next day, I get up and say, "Hunny, will you come cuddle with me?" {In a fairly high-pitched whiny voice..} Even though he knows that we won't actually cuddle and I'll end up babbling about my blog until my words come out as incoherent mumbo-jumbo as I fall asleep, he still gets up and follows me to bed every night. And then, as I'm about to drift off, he "tucks me in" and kisses me goodnight on the forehead. So, really, you all have it wrong.
I am the one who has it made...
