The Penny Jar

This fun idea was submitted by Mindi Homgren.

What is it?

Mindi says:

"It's a penny jar. Every time you "have-a-little-fun-in-the-bedroom", you put a penny in your jar. We started it with the new year and our goal is to top the number next year. There's all kinds of variations, though. If you want to put a quarter or even a dollar in you could use that money towards renting a movie or a date. It's also a good code name. i.e. "I want to put a penny in our jar. Should we put the kids to bed?" Then, no one would know what you were talking about! It was a pretty simple project to do and even my husband loves the idea!"

{Thanks, Mindi!}

  3. We do something similar.....starting on our honeymoon night we have put a DOLLAR away each time :) That was over 7 years ago!! We're planning on a massive vacation for our 30th Anniversary and then we'll start again :)

  7. I showed this to my hubby and he thought it was funny. We figure it's gotta be something more than pennies if we're saving for date night. Even at 100 cents is only a dollar. Not much of a date!

  8. Gonna have to make one of these. Maybe it will encourage hubby to get home from work before I'm already asleep!

  9. hey, if you've got nothing to put aside, then pennies are perfect! If you've got a little more to spare, quarters or dollars would be great like Mindi said! :)

  10. our social circle does something similar for a shower gift... we have a bean jar, the bride gets a bag of beans and a jar, your first year of marriage you work to fill the jar and then second year you take a bean OUT each time and try to get rid of all the beans ;) so cute!

  15. We did pennies our first year of marriage, nickels our second, dimes our third, now we're into quarters and I'm wondering if the bank will let me get a bunch of 50-cent pieces for next year...

  19. Jar could say: "Anytime you want me, you have to pay the price... And when the jar is full, I'll buy us something nice." :)
